Hineihaea is a trained secondary Māori language teacher, with more than 30 years’ experience in the Māori language and education sectors. She is also an experienced researcher, evaluator, and advisor in Māori education, with a particular interest in Māori-medium education. She has developed and facilitated numerous teacher education in-service programmes on curriculum, second language pedagogy, and assessment.
Hineihaea has successfully managed several national Māori language and education projects, including the learning areas of Te Reo Māori and Te Reo Pākehā within Te Marautanga o Aotearoa for the Ministry of Education, the Whakamātauria Tō Reo Māori (Language Proficiency Examination system) for Te Taura Whiri i te reo Māori, and Tātaiako: cultural competencies for teachers of Māori learners for the Teaching Council (then NZ Teachers Council) and the Ministry of Education.
Hineihaea has the skill of pulling together key ideas into a clear framework and worked with organisations such as The Office of the Auditor General, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to develop their Te Reo and Te Ao Māori strategies and frameworks.
